Meet the Doctors

John F. Darby, Jr., D.D.S.

John Darby, Jr. D.D.S. earned his General Dental degree and Operative Dentistry Scholarship from Emory University. He then practiced general dentistry and was a part-time clinical instructor for dental and hygiene students at the Medical College of Georgia.

In 1982, Dr. Darby completed his periodontal residency at the Medical College of Georgia and moved to Ocala to start his periodontal practice. He later expanded his practice to include a satellite office in Crystal River.

Dr. Darby is a member of all relevant dental associations including; the American Dental Association, American Academy of Periodontology, Southern Academy of Periodontology, Florida Society of Periodontists, Central District Dental Association, Marion Country Dental Society, Academy of Osseointegration and American Dental Society of Anesthesiology.

He has also been Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President and President of the local Marion County Dental Society. In addition to holding office, Dr. Darby has lectured on periodontal issues to educational institutions and dental societies.

Dr. Darby lives in Ocala with his wife, Shelley, and their two sons, Shawn and Brett. His main outside interests are his family, church, and community service although he manages to find time to compete in at least one yearly triathlon

Dr. Darby recently celebrated his 22nd anniversary of practice in Ocala and 14th anniversary of great partnership with fellow periodontist, Dr. Johnson.

When asked why he felt the practice has been so successful, he replied, “I think all of us; myself, Dr. Johnson, and the staff, try to live by our Mission Statement. A number of years ago we all got together and came up with our Mission Statement which is:
To treat each patient with the same caring, concern, and respect we would give to a close family member. And to also treat our dental colleagues with deference and respect.”

Timothy M. Johnson, D.M.D.

Timothy Johnson, D.M.D., received the American Academy of Periodontology’s Annual Student Award for scholarship upon graduation from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1987. Dr. Johnson then completed specialty training at the University in periodontics. The University of Alabama is one of the nation’s leading dental research institutions.

Dr. Johnson is one of a handful of periodontists in the country who also has a degree in pharmacy. Prior to joining practice with John Darby, D.D.S., he was a resident and clinical instructor for dental and hygiene students at the University of Alabama in Birmingham.

Dr. Johnson grew up locally, in the Ocala area. Upon completing his education, he came back and set up private practice with noted Ocala periodontist, Dr. John Darby. In the past 14 years, Drs. Darby and Johnson have maintained an exceptional, state-of-the-art periodontal practice.

Dr. Johnson is a member of all relevant dental associations including; the American Dental Association, American Academy of Periodontology, Southern Academy of Periodontology, Florida Society of Periodontists, Central District Dental Association, Marion Country Dental Society, Academy of Osseointegration and American Dental Society of Anesthesiology.

He has also been Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President and President of the local Marion County Dental Society.

A firm believer that a true professional must always be learning and growing, he is currently certified in four dental implant systems. In addition to full time practice, he attends a number of advanced education courses each year.

Dr. Johnson’s hobbies include fishing, kayaking, and Babe Ruth Baseball (with his son).
