Bone Grafting

Qualify for Dental Implants

Bone Grafting Helps Secure a New Smile

If you’ve been living with missing teeth, there’s a chance that you will need bone grafting before you qualify for dental implants. When teeth are missing, they no longer provide stimulation to your jawbone, which will shrink in size and volume. This may not be noticeable if you have a single missing tooth, but patients missing a significant number of teeth often appear to look much older than they are due to the “shrunken-in” effect of extensive bone loss. Bone grafting can reverse all these negative consequences of missing teeth and turn you into a candidate for dental implants so you can enjoy the long-term benefits of stable teeth and healthy bone. Our experienced periodontists, Dr. John Darby and Dr. Timothy Johnson, are trained in Piezosurgery®, a minimally invasive technique for patients needing bone grafting in Ocala and Crystal River, FL.

Specialized in Bone Grafting Techniques

Bone grafting is a procedure that takes bone material and uses it to rebuild defects in the jaw ridge, either due to extraction, trauma, or disease. Bone can come from either a separate part of your body, like the chin or hip (autograft), created in a laboratory setting (allograft), or taken from a sterile donor source (xenograft). An incision is made in the gum tissue, then the bone material is placed at the treatment site. For larger areas of bone resorption, we offer ridge augmentation, which replaces bone along an entire boney ridge to restore natural contours and volume of the bone. If a tooth is lost in the upper back portion of the jaw, we perform a sinus lift to add new bone and shift the sinus membrane up to create space beneath for a dental implant.

Our advanced healing techniques, which include platelet-rich fibrin, plasma rich growth factors, and bone morphogenetic protein, also aid in the regeneration of new bone and tissue growth, accelerate healing, and reduce post-operative complications and infection risk. If you have bone loss and missing teeth, there are solutions that can get you back to a comfortable, functioning smile. Learn more by contacting us today!
